Keratan Akhbar The New Sarawak Tribune (Sabtu, 23 April 2011)

KUCHING: The Gerak Gempur mov ement o f Pa r t i Pe s a k a Bumiputera Bersatu Tupong Branch has demanded an apology from MCA's Senator Gan Ping Sieu for his comment that was published in a national newspaper.

Gerak Gempur Chai rman Ahmad Zuraimi Sakawi said that Gan's calling for Chief Minister Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud to step down due to the lack of Chinese support as proven from the dismal showing of Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) in the just concluded state election “as an irresponsible and uncalled for comment”.

Zuraimi said that Gan, who is also Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, should instead concentrate his attention on MCA and not to interfere with politics in Sarawak considering that the 13th general election was looming in the horizon.

He also said that Gan should not bring up the subject of the Chief Minister's power transition because this had been publicly announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak himself in Serian last month, hence, there was no need for a reminder.

Zuraimi said that the relinquishment of the Chief Minister's post should not be forced on the person but best left to Najib and Taib to decide.

Speaking at a press conference in Matang here yesterday, Zuraimi said that Taib had done so much for Sarawak and one of them was to attract investors from the Middle East to pour their money into the Tanjung Manis Halal Hub.

Also present at the press conference were the Secretary of Tupong PBB Azman Mohd Eli and a party member Hairul Faizee Saaidin “The Chief Minister has worked very hard to bring about great change and transformation to the state, especially through the initiation of Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) and also through his focus on attracting more foreign direct investments into the state “Sarawak still needs Taib’s leadership and guidance and this is proven from the people’s mandate in the just concluded 10th state election whereby PBB won all its allocated 35 seats.

“As such, we want Gan to apologise to the Chief Minister and to the people of Sarawak for his irresponsible comments,” said Zuraimi.
